    A New Sem Started

The first week of the new semester has passed, but still have not figured out the feeling of year three. And I am still wondering what to do in the future. Yes, it is quite easy to follow others, get higher GPA, and find a job. However, do I come to Hong Kong just for a job?  Do I study here four years just to find a job, or a good job?

What am I really going to do for my life?  Two years have passed and still have not figure out the answer. When checking the study scheme of the BBA and QFN major, I find that after this semester, I need only to fulfill 7 courses to finish the QFN major, but 8 courses to finish my original major, namely BBA. However, does this mean I know much about Hong Kong financial market? No, and never. I even do not know the basic requirements and procedures of buying stocks. Don’t you think it is ridiculous and ironic that one can finish a major but knowing little about the whole industry?

Do you study something you really like from the bottom of your heart or you are study something you and others think you like? I have to say that I more or less like finance. But I hate the BBA major, though may Honkeys (Hong Kong people) spill the head to enroll in BBA. It never taught me how to be a man and find out the critical thinking on my way to maturity.  All it filled in my head are some rigid doctrines about marketing and management. Which entrepreneur you know is a BBA major?  I am not regretting for choosing the program, for I have regretted the choice one year before. Now I am talking it in a peaceful mind and heart.

So what becomes clear now is to clearly find what I want to do in my future life within this year. I have wasted two years preparing for exams and doing nothing. No more time should be wasted.

One professor suggests that undergraduates ought to spend as little time as possible on those courses concerning "management". Frankly speaking, I feel odd when introducing myself as a business administration student. As a matter of fact, I'm still far from perfect self-management. Mkt and similar business courses are of fun, but those abstract modern western theory are of little use compared to practical experience. This semester, I have a new classmate who finished his 2-year associated degree study in CUHK and become one of our BBA students in HKBU. What I've realized is that he understand HK society much better than me who stay on campus all the time and he has much experience in part-time job and has excellent vision.
When I talk with final year students, I receive an answer of ”applying for postgraduate and in search of occupation at the same time”. Hence,I'm realzing that it's kind of compulsory choice confronted by every graduate student. I find my foundation year in Hong Kong lack of passion as all I have done is pursing a high GPA and read books as many as I can without a clear vision of the future and understanding of myself. I'm joining HKBU Mandarine debation team, as a Year1 student, which is actually one year older than other freshmen.I don't have an explicit expectation of what everything will be like after my 3-year formal campus life in HKBU, but I decide to start with what I have motivation and passion in, and my first year
"wasted" occasionally force me to think about what I am here in Hong Kong for. I once see Hong Kong as my dream city for university life, but now I realize that Kong Kong is no more than the place that I have to endeaver to earn my own future. This rather reminds me to waste time no more....
BBA is no more than a major name, and as I see it, critical thinking has to be fostered with wide knowledge and vision, both books and practical experience are of help. What distinguish a BBA student than other major students? They are not oblidged to spend time on endless experiments in labs and have more opportunity and free space to organize their own study in econ?finance?mkt?...What I find is that schools care little about whay you have learned but how many credits you have earned so that you can be qualified to graduate from colleges, and no wonder my Chinese teacher call such universities as Study Stores(學店).Just do it, my dear friend, you can make it^ ^
